Holy Week Celebration at Kokar

Jharkhand, Kokar, March 29, 2018:  Kokar Parish was blessed to have His Lordship Theodore Mascarenhas SFX, the CBCI Secretary General as a guest for the Maunday Thursday Celebrations.

His Lordship blessed the new Tabernacle in the Chapel. The Maunday Thursday celebration kicked off with the entrance hymn at 5 p.m. Bishop Theodore spoke of the three most important things about the mystery of the day’s celebration – Jesus instituting of the Eucharist at the last Supper; calling  to be servants as Jesus himself washed the feet of his apostles; praying for the priests as it was their feast day.

An audience of five thousand participated devoutly and listened attentively to his sermon. There were 14 priests and a huge number of sisters who rendered their help in the celebration, especially for the distribution of the Holy Communion. The melodious singing of the Parish Youth inspired everyone to participate with devotion. The celebration came to its conclusion at 8.30 p.m.

Good Friday, April 30, 2018: The celebration of the ‘Passion of Jesus’ began with the ‘Way of the Cross’ at 3.30 p.m. It was performed by the Catholic Sabha, Mahila Sangh and Parish Youth in the school playground. A heavy Cross was carried by priests and brothers alternatively. Fr. Rector shared his reflection on the sufferings of Christ, stating that gazing at the cross will transform our lives. The playground was jam-packed with believers who participated with atmost devotion during the veneration of the Cross and the Holy Communion.

Easter Vigil, April 31, 2018: The Easter Vigil Mass was conducted by Fr. Jyotish Kindo, the Principal of Don Bosco School, Kokar at 10.30 p.m. It was organized in the school ground which was beautifully decorated and all minute arrangements were made by sisters, brothers and other volunteers.  There were about eight thousand people present for the celebrations. The celebrations ended on a happy note by singing Halleluyah to JESUS CHRIST at 2.00 a.m.​
