Don Bosco Chandigarh celebrates International Women’s Day

On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2022, Don Bosco Navjeevan Society in collaboration with Chandigarh Urban Festival (CUF) organized an event on March 7th, 2022 in St Stephen’s School, Sector-45b Chandigarh.

This event was graced with the presence of our esteemed Chief Guest Ms Hargunjit Kaur IAS, Director Tourism Chd., Fr. Reji Tom, Director, Don Bosco Navjeevan Society (DBNS) and other honorary dignitaries including Dr. Shobha Kausar (Kathak Dance Artist), Ms Sunita Dhawan, AHTU, Mrs Shilpa Dass Secretary CUF and other core members of Child Friendly City Initiative.

DBNS planned numerous cultural activities focusing on the theme “Empower Women- Empower the Nation”. The objective of the event was manifold- to empower, to inspire, to thank and to encourage women.

 The event witnessed active participation from the members of Self Help Groups from 10 marginalized areas of Chandigarh. Members of different SHGs gave dance performances on the topic “Nature of Women” and “Women Power”. Students of DBNS also presented Nukkad Natak on the topic “Gender Equality” and “Cleanliness” were thoroughly enjoyed and applauded by the audience. The Federation of Child Parliaments, Chandigarh deliberated on the matters related to Child Rights, Gender Equality and Child Friendly City.

On the special occasion of International Women’s Day, two major campaigns were launched by the Federation of Child Parliaments, Chandigarh, namely-“Keep Chandigarh Green and Clean” and “Leave No Child Behind”. The objective of “Keep Chandigarh Green and Clean” is to keep the City Beautiful clean and green with the collaborated efforts of Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh. The second campaign “Leave No Child Behind” has been launched with the motive of providing education to children who are below the age of 14 and residing in Chandigarh.  Don Bosco Navjeevan Society gave a PowerPoint Presentation to portray the successful intervention programs carried forward by the NGO for the welfare of women in the disadvantaged and marginalized areas.

The event was closed with an award giving ceremony held for the Women with great contributions to the society. The awards were presented by the honorary Chief Guest, Ms Hargunjit Kaur. Fr. Reji Tom, Director of DBNS thanked the authorities of St. Stephen’s School for making the space, time and efforts to organize the event successfully.

With the presence of esteemed high dignitaries such as social activists, secretaries, doctors, officers, educationists, architects, journalists and others, DBNS took one step forward to encourage, empower, inspire and honour women and their aspirations in all aspects of their lives.
