Being true to the Salesian style of ministering to the youth, Don Bosco Centre, Jamtoli, Kolebira has opened its’ campus for the youth of the neighbouring villages. About 70 children and youth come to the campus for daily oratory of a four-hour duration. They range from nursery to college and are from varied economical and educational backgrounds. The oratory is open to both boys and girls.
The oratory begins with an assembly and prayer at 3.30 pm. The young people play football and hockey. Having enjoyed and relaxed, they sit down to study from 4.30 to 7.30 pm. The evening ends with common prayer and a small talk. Needless to say, that the children are assisted by Salesians. Even parents are involved in this programme. They came to pick up their wards from the campus.
Special feature of the daily oratory is Rosary procession on Saturdays which is followed by screening of educative movies.
Don Bosco sports promotion Programme
On 1st September 2021 Don Bosco Jamtoli began a sports awareness programme under the leadership of Fr. Jyotish Kindo, the Principal of Don Bosco English Medium School, Jamtoli. Football coaching is provided for almost 40 boys and girls. The Salesian community too is actively involved and the facilities of the institutions have been made available for the youngsters of the locality on every Saturday and Sunday and on other holidays for coaching purpose. Mr. Onil Beck, a professionally trained coach oversees the practices. Tournaments in hockey and football are being planned for both boys and girls in the near future to give the youngsters opportunities to showcase their talents in these sporting events as well as to make them aware of the latest rules and playing styles. Khassi cup, Murga cup, Banda cup, cash prizes are some of the ways of awarding the winning teams, envisioned to give incentives to the young people. Some financial help has been received from Don Bosco Youth Animation – South Asia Region.
On account of these activities Don Bosco Jamtoli is slowly but certainly gaining a place in the hearts of the young people of the locality. It is a humble beginning. But the Salesians dream of a centre that will promote sporting talents in the young people of the locality will certainly gain grounds as time progresses. The task ahead is no less challenging, no less daunting and by no means easy. However, the vision and dedication of the Salesian community is set to make some substantial changes in the lives of tribal young boys and girls of the area.
