Following the words of Pope Francis that the poor are the treasures of the Church and that the poor facilitate our access to heaven, Don Bosco Youth and Educational Services, Bariatu served a Christmas lunch to the poor and needy of the locality on 23rd December, 2020. After the lockdown many people lost their jobs and were deprived of their basic needs of food, clothing and shelter. Their anguish and pain moved the Salesians and the faithful of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bariatu into action. They were able to draw inspiration from Jesus and feed the poor in a small way.
About 200 poor people were made to feel like a family at the Christmas lunch, no matter how lonely they felt. What really made the Christmas lunch at Don Bosco, Bariatu so memorable was the loving kindness that was on display. Fr. John Henry recalls the experience and says, “It gave us immense joy and satisfaction that we were able to share our Christmas joy with the poor and needy.”
