South Asian Region Vocational Guidance Coordinators Google meet was held on 13th of August, 2020 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Around 18 Salesians from South Asia were connected together to reflect on the theme ‘Fostering A Vocational Culture: Process of Understanding and Animating Vocational Guidance.’
The scope of the South Asian Region Vocational Guidance Coordinators Google meet, held on 13th of August, 2020 was to explore ways to give visibility and to create vocational culture in Salesian presences through provincial, local and personal initiatives. In the initial key note address by Fr. Felix Fernandes, Provincial of Panjim -Konkan (INP) and Provincial In-charge of the vocational Guidance dimension encouraged the members by highlighting the main elements from the Articles. 37 of the Salesian Constitutions and stated: “Vocational Guidance is the crown of all Salesian educational and pastoral activity.”
The Vocation Coordinators of the Provinces presented the reports from each of the provinces and specified the preference given to Vocational Guidance. The objectives, priorities, strategies and educative & pastoral interventions of the Provinces were enumerated in the report. The Coordinators also presented the interconnection of the four dimensions of the Salesian Youth Ministry in the different works, sectors and pastoral animation settings of the Province. The sharing of experiences in the area of Vocational Guidance in different provinces was very enlightening and thought provoking.
Fr. Robert Simon, DBYA National Coordinator in his concluding thoughts encouraged the participants to “Be ambassador of the Vocational Dimension and to carry out this important dimension of youth ministry convincingly in our local Salesian presences.” Fr. Gabriel Karunaraj, National Coordinator of Vocational Guidance Dimension, beautifully coordinated the entire meeting.
