On 20th March 2021, twenty-four Salesian Co-operators of Holy Child Auxilium, Vasant Vihar – New Delhi organized a Social Outreach programme to Don Bosco, Jhajjar, where Salesians are involved in working for brick kiln children.
The Holy Child Auxilium, Vasant Vihar Co-operators, under the leadership of Mr. Victor Nazareth, Co-ordinator and guidance of Sr. Maria Pettayil, FMA Delegate, collected funds and reached out with food to about 200 children of the brick kilns of Jhajjar in Haryana on 20th March, 2021. Mr. Victor says: “The Salesian community at Jhajjar under the guidance of Fr. Joy Marangattikala are doing a magnificent job there for the children of the workers in the brick kilns. My visit to the brick kilns and the sight of teachers teaching children in the open fields with no roof over their heads moved me a lot.” He was impressed by the effort of the Salesians and the dedicated staff, who are doing their best to provide education and help to the really poor children.
The Salesian Co-operators themselves cooked and provided a sumptuous meal to the children which included vegetable pulao, sambhar, mixed vegetables, eggs, papad, salad, fruits and sweets. There was enough food to be distributed in the kilns even in the evening.
The Salesian Co-operators returned home feeling blessed, understanding the value of caring and sharing. It was not just feeding the children with food; it was feeding them with love and kindness.
