Dr. Varun Khullar MBBS, MD, Alumnus of Don Bosco School, Alaknanda – New Delhi has carried out many initiatives for the marginalized through his NGO ‘Chhoti Chhoti Khushiyan’, since its inception in 2016. With the second Covid-19 wave sweeping in Delhi, he started supply of food, free medicines, X-Ray, CT scan and oxygen concentrators for the needy and underprivileged.
Dr. Varun Khullar, who completed his studies at Don Bosco School, Alaknanda in 2006, started his social work by adopting an orphanage near a Church in Delhi and providing the children with food and study materials. Then he donated a library with 2000 books for the poor kids. His wife Dr. Swati Arora MD Psychiatry collaborates in the initiatives of the NGO and counsels people to maintain mental health and face challenges of life with positivity.
As the pandemic raged, Dr. Varun continued with food drives for Covid positive families, migrant labourers, maids, daily wagers, the poor and the underprivileged. He has already provided free of cost a pack of essential medicines for 7 days costing around Rs 1000 to as many as 500 underprivileged people and helped to save their lives. With the help of his colleague Dr. Ankur Aggarwal who owns a testing Lab, he got CT scans and X-rays done at a subsidized cost for poor people. Over 200 people with BPL Card, migrant workers, factory workers and rickshaw pullers were given priority in this facility. Dr. Varun also arranged oxygen concentrators and set them up at Gurudwaras, temples and Masjid to support those in need of oxygen.
Dr. Varun says: “To save the lives of my own teachers from Covid and help my alma mater were proud moments for me. It was very emotional for me to guide teachers who sought my help in these tough moments.” Uma Nair, his English teacher writes: “When a student turns into a healer during a pandemic, the equation of life changes. Dr. Varun Khullar begins his morning feeding the needy. He is on call 24×7 for emergencies. I saw vestiges of our patron saint Don Bosco in his lifestyle and felt so proud and so safe. He taught an old English teacher that life is only about serving.”
